Frequently Asked Questions
Is Structural Integration painful ?
Structural Integration should not be extremely painful. At times, you may feel some discomfort — similar to a deep stretch — but it shouldn’t be so painful that it overwhelms your autonomic nervous system. If your body feels unsafe, it actually resists the work, which is counterproductive to healing. I encourage open communication during sessions so we can always stay within a range that feels safe and effective for you.
How many session will I need?
Most clients seek me out because they want to experience the full 10-Series of Structural Integration, which systematically works through the entire body. However, you are not required to commit to the whole series. If you’d like to receive just one or two sessions to see how your body responds, that’s completely fine. My goal is always to make the work accessible and to meet you where you are.
How frequently do I need to book my sessions?
Most people schedule sessions weekly or every other week. This keeps the work fresh and allows your body to integrate the changes between sessions. I recommend not spacing sessions more than a month apart if you’re doing the full 10-Series, so the momentum of the work isn’t lost. That said, I always work with your schedule and needs to make it doable for you.
How is Structural Integration different from massage?
Massage is typically focused on relaxation and localized muscle tension relief. Structural Integration looks at the whole body and works to create lasting changes in posture, structural balance and movement by manipulating fascia, which is a type of connective tissue. It’s as much about education and awareness as it is about hands-on work.
